17th June Grand Re-Opening of Forest Town Track
On Monday 17th June 2013, Forest Town Aces celebrated the completion renovation works at Forest Town Track with a Grand Re-opening.
In March 2013, Nottinghamshire County Council awarded Forest Town Aces a grant from their Game Changer Fund. The grant paid for new track perimeter fencing, repaint the track markings and repair the track lights.
With a record attendance - 74 riders, the event saw young local rider Amelie Wayte of Matlock CC cut the ribbon with Team GB’s Matt Rotherham. The official opening continued with ceremonial laps of the track by the riding groups, including the track officials.
The evening then turned to the serious stuff of racing with the free wheel group racing a 4-lap handicap won by Taylor Carr of Heanor Clarion CC. The Youth boys were up next, for an 8-lap points race won by Max Williamson of Lincs Squad with 20pts. The women and girls had a closely fought 6-lap handicap race won by Poppy Wildman of Nottingham Clarion CC. The senior and junior men contested an elimination race won by Will Perrett of Heanor Clarion CC. The traditional track racing concluded with an invitation keirin, unsurprisingly won by Team GB’s Matt Rotherham!
Matt Rotherham also made an attempt on the track “Lap record” (27.7 secs) narrowly missing out with a time of 28.07 secs.
Graeme Waters, Jim Crew and Richard Thoday, track officials, then raced a demonstration team sprint on penny-farthing cycles recording a time of 2.10.02.
Next Monday 24th June will see a return to a regular race programme with new riders welcome. The club also offers coaching sessions at the track – please check the website for details: foresttowntrack.co.uk.
For more pics from the night please see our official photographer for the night Sally Maier's Album Here on FB
These sessions are an introduction to the track enviroment, fixed wheel bikes and track etiquette.
Aimed at novices who aim to be racing at the FT Track League or other Leagues.
Due to limited no of loan bikes especially small sized fixed wheel bikes there will have to be restrictions on age or rider or height but 16 riders in total per each session on a first come first served basis (two groups of 8) this will ensure quality coaching and allow riders to have access to a fixed wheel bike in each group.
Riders can bring a free wheel bike, for off track skills sessions.
Contact Graeme for more details email firstname.lastname@example.org
Not wanting to steel the thunder of the grand opening we will be holding a coaching evening on the 10th June.
A night of new things to try and freedom to fail, the reset button can be replayed many times.
The FT Track Bikes will be availble to use, if we have good numbers please share across the evening. We will be touching on Team pursuit, TT's (bring Tri Bars if you have them), Devils, Kierins, Points Race, Match Sprint and elements within all of these.
The evening is for Fixed wheel only, never ridden fixed then come along and try.
7pm Prompt Start Finish at 9pm
Cost of £2 per rider.
