Cross: Bevis wins in floodlit Welsh League race

Merlin’s Knight Cross | Welsh League
Location: Carmarthen Park, Wales
Event: 19 October 2013
Report: Liz Slater/Snowdon Sports

Ryan Bevis (NFTO) bagged top spot in the floodlit main race of the Merlin's Knight 'Cross at Carmarthen Park on Saturday evening.

A very heavy shower in the afternoon did not bode well but as it turned out the event was blessed with a fine evening and the ground held up well despite its drenching.

Bevis, 31 and from Llanfaes, took to the front with Matthew Thompson (Cardiff JIF) in close attendance and Joe Lally (CC Abergavenny) chasing, as the field headed out of the velodrome.

A brief change in order came mid-way through the race as Bevis, like many, became a victim of the slippery Flag Pole Bank and Thompson took the lead. With Bevis back on the front Thompson then rolled a tub and had to chase down Lally after a stop in the pits.

Bevis comfortably took the win from Thompson with Lally third only just ahead of his club-mate and winning Veteran Tim Davies. Alister Williams (Abergavenny RC) won a race-long tussle with fellow Junior Matthew Thorne (TRCC).
