Where Are We Riding?

Club Rides

The club, on average, organises two rides a month.

* Specific routes, meeting times and meeting venues are published on our Strava feed.

All of our club rides are open to all members whatever their cycling ability. If needs be the ride group will be split into different smaller groups depending on the ability and speed of the riders who turn up. We leave no one behind and our aim is to bring as many club members together in a social ride that builds confidence and allows club members to gain experience in riding in a group and riding out on the road. These Club Rides are also good training sessions for those who want to enter their first sportives.

Training Rides

The club will also organise weekly training rides. These are focused on club members who want to improve their fitness and speed as well as wanting to learn group riding etiquette. (A must for those wanting a taste of racing)

* Specific routes, meeting times and meeting venues are published on our Strava feed.

Anyone who intends to participate in the faster 'chaingang' group rides should ideally be familiar with group riding techniques and the course as well, as those who are dropped off the back of the group are expected to make their own way home.

The Club & Its Members

Each year the Club will try and arrange special events designed to bring club members together for social occasions, to provide additional training events for those who are new to cycling and to allow all members to try new cycling experiences like track cycling or cyclo-cross etc.

Annual events will include:

* Specific routes, meeting times and meeting venues are published on our Strava feed.

Sportive Rides

These will tend to be in the Surrey region but may extend further afield in the UK or abroad, depending on members interests. Details and costs will be made available nearer to the published dates. We're 'game' for many things - let us know your suggestions!

Track Days

Depending on the availability of the velodrome and interest from members, the club arranges sessions at either Manchester Velodrome or the Olympic Velodrome in London. There is a fee charged for these track sessions but generally the fee includes the track and bike hire plus the coaching.

* Specific routes, meeting times and meeting venues are published on our Strava feed.

Coaching Rides

Coaching rides/sessions will be organised with a British Cycling qualified coach. These will be available to all members.

* Specific routes, meeting times and meeting venues are published on our Strava feed.

Club Racing - You Know You Want to…

The club actively encourages those who want to race to do so and will look to register and seek affiliation with a number of regional leagues.

We are already affiliated with British Cycling.

There are number of different ways one can participate in racing events depending on your interests and riding strengths. Drop us an email if you have any questions or need pointing in the right direction.

Options for racing are detailed below. Do contact the club for further information or advice. In due course the club will look to participate in both road and circuit racing in the local region. Venues where racing takes place include local circuit races at Hillingdon, Hog Hill, Crystal Palace, Cyclopark (Kent) as well as a number of Surrey League road races, these venues are made available through the British Cycling or Surrey League websites.

As the club grows, Walton Velo will look to run its own club champs and competitions focusing on different types of cycling events and designated Strava challenges. Details and notifications of these events will be sent out via the various club communication platforms.

Please note that if you are racing as a Walton Velo club member you must race in the registered club kit as this is now a formal requirement by British Cycling.
