Club Rides

See the Club Ride Calendar 2018 for ride details including group details and start times. For the latest information see the Leisure & Club Rides section of the Forum.

Participation in an organised ride is a great way to enjoy bike riding in the company of other cyclists and to have the opportunity to explore new routes and perhaps more challenging distances.  Whether you are new to club riding or an experienced rider new to the area this section will give you all you need to know to join a club ride, to keep the rides safe and to aid our ride leaders you need to be properly prepared.

These rides are organised by the club with nominated ride leaders, with most rides using minor roads and avoiding urban areas.  The rides generally include a short cafe stop for a hot drink and snack. Club rides are social group rides and not training rides although many riders do use the rides as part of their training program. They should not be used as a race simulation or an opportunity to show off how fit you are by racing ahead of the group.

Prospective club members are welcome to join club rides as an invited rider but must join the club if they wish to continue joining club rides, please read the following pages to find out what you need to know and which group might be suitable for you, new riders are encouraged to join a slower group to start with to build experience. Please make yourself known to the ride leader if you are new to the club or the group.

Groups are organised catering for a range of abilities and experience, regular Saturday rides start from Cofferidge Close, outside the Passage to India restaurant in Stony Stratford (MK11 1BY).

Please note the following:

  • The High Street is one way, please ensure you do not ride the wrong way down to the meeting place – if you reach the High Street from the London Road end either get off the bike and walk or ride round and come in at the back of Cofferidge Close.
  • Assemble sensibly without blocking footpaths around the start point.
  • Ride maximum two abreast in and out of Stony Stratford with courtesy to other road users and pedestrians.
  • There is CCTV in operation at the junction of the High Street and London Road.
  • TMK membership ID cards should be carried by all members.

Group Size

Due to the popularity of the club rides we are recommending that the maximum group size is 12 riders, if more than 12 riders turn up please split into more than one group. This only works if more than one person is prepared to lead a group, so please turn up with the necessary preparation to lead.

Riders should join one of the main cycling organisations such as British Cycling or Cycling UK (CTC) to provide them with insurance cover, see Club Ride Essential Information for more details on insurance cover.

Riders joining rides must follow the guidance in the Club Ride Essential Information and Club Ride Group Riding Etiquette sections. If you are not prepared to follow this guidance which is for the benefit of all riders then please do not join the club rides.

Club rides are inclusive and open to all members aged 14 years or older, riders under 18 must meet the minimum requirements to ride, see Club Ride Essential Information for full details.
