The Junior section was setup during April 2016 primarily to provide off road riding opportunities to kids following in from the Go Ride base created by WWCRT. Initially we were able to provide some Mountain Bike Type coaching sessions along with Go MTB events and a round of the Welsh XC MTB League. From here it was clear that there was a big interest in the North of Ceredigion and with WWCRT moving South for the Winter we were able to secure the use of an indoor venue for the winter and run Weekly skills sessions. This coupled with a Community Chest application has allowed us to train more coaches and purchase kit needed.
The club also runs weekly night MTB rides which have proved really popular.
The focus is on the basics and grass roots coaching for kids of all ages, abilities and using any bike from a balance bike to a road bike. The sessions are fun based, inclusive and there is no pressure. The improvement in basic skills is already showing through with the kids who have ridden rounds of the Welsh Cyclocross League this winter.
Following on from the Indoor Sessions this Winter the club will then start a series of outdoor basic and specific skills sessions again suitable for all at various venues around the North of Aberystwyth. We will couple this with some Go MTB type events where the kids and parents can try a race in a fun friendly environment where winning is not the outcome for the day.
Ceredigion is lucky to have two Cycling clubs with Ystwyth in the North and WWCRT in the South providing cycling opportunities for all throughout the County.
We would also like to thank the following who support and assist the Juniors :
Aberystwyth University, Cambrian Tyres, Summit Cycles and Welsh Hot Tubs
